Chapter 17
Shakti Sadhana
After marriage, the bizarre sixth sense phenomenon had greatly dwindled. In accordance with the ideal family life, I would spare at least an hour for meditation every day. One night as I slept, the same old voice appeared in my dream. Descending from deep space the voice penetrated my brain uttering the words âyou will get a sonâ. Then a lamp made of mud appeared in the vision. It had an incandescent flame on the top. I was engrossed watching the incessant flame. And, then suddenly the lamp cracked into brittle ballast and fell on the ground. âOh God! What will happen to the flame now?â I screamed in the dream thinking it will be put out on falling down. But out of the darkness two milky white hands conjured. âThe flame will be protected,â the voice said. I was undergoing emotions of worry and excitement. âYou will get a son, he will be protected,â the voice proclaimed. The two hands joined together in place of the lamp and tenderly held the flame. Hardly had the dream ended, I woke up. It was early morning. Manisha was two months pregnant. Waking up in the morning I told her that we were going to get a son. Somewhat startled hearing me say this immediately after waking up, she asked, âHow do you know?â I explained, âI had a dream last night in which a voice came to me with this prophecy.â She gave me a wonder-filled glance not knowing how to react to what might have looked to her as craziness. She was not aware of the sixth sense phenomenon that I had gone through.
âHowever, it seems that you will have to face some difficulty in pregnancy. But the child will be protected,â I added mildly. A fortnight elapsed after this dream when because of some complication, I had to rush Manisha to the hospital. She was advised strict bed rest for a month. For the check-up, we had gone to Kangra and the doctor strictly advised against traveling. My cousin sister and her husband, who lived at Kangra, had also come to the hospital. They took us to their home. This cousin sister was the daughter of the aunt whose death was foretold to me in a dream. For twenty one days we stayed at their home. My brother-in-law was a devotee of Maa Baglamukhi â the eighth Goddess of Das Mahavidya. Sensing my penchant for the spiritual and occult, one day he said, âWhy donât you learn Shakt Sadhana?â
âI donât know the procedure. It is also believed to be very strong and also dangerous if not properly done,â I expressed my perception.
âIt is dangerous only if you are not able to maintain discipline during the Sadhana period. But if a devotee has sincerity towards the Divine Mother, which you certainly have, then Motherâs grace will fall on her children. When on an evolution path, we are traveling by a bicycle in accordance with the cause-effect shaped by previous births, we are safe but slow,â he explained.
